Heavy Weight Single Hand Rods – 7 weight and above

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE, FISH CANE ………..

Contrary to popular belief, using a single hand rod for chasing Steelhead and Atlantic Salmon is not dead. The single hand rod is still an incredibly effective and useful tool for chasing anadromous species. It is still my favourite way to skate dry flies in tail outs.

We offer 2pc. and 3pc. rods in this series. We also offer the option of ferrules or spliced joints. Spliced joints lower the weight as well as giving the rod a more fluid feel. Take out the stop points of the ferrules and the rod reacts as a one piece rod with the added benefit of still being able to break it down for convenient travel at the end of the day.

Most people are usually surprised at how light these cane rods feel in hand in the larger line weights. People also usually comment on the speed of recovery in our rods and how they thought all cane rods were heavy and slow. This is far from the truth with modern cane rods. These rods are truly a pleasure to cast all day on your favourite stream. These attributes and characteristics are created by their hollowbuilt design and modern tapers. These are not you’re Grandfathers rods …….. they are built to excel with all of the modern casting systems.

The Prototype:

The Prototype was designed with the input and help of Picabo Angler Guide Christian Reid. This taper is for all of the non traditional hatches and fishing opportunities that Silver Creek and the surrounding waters around Sun Valley, Idaho offer. Chasing Giant Browns at night was a huge focus. We were looking for a rod that would load with a single cast yet lay down huge mouse patterns and streamers with little to no wake. The goal was to make the ideal mousing rod, and humbly …… I think we might have nailed it. I really wish I had had this stick while living in Michigan.

The Prototype is a three tip rod, essentially you’re getting two rods in one. The Prototype is an 8′ 2 PC. Parabolic rod that comes with:

2 qty. 7 weight tips to get dirty, fishing sink tips with streamers or a dry line to chase nasty, mice eating browns.

1 qty. 6 weight tip for fishing those big dries that get our heart going. Big foam Hoppers, Drakes, Hex, Damsels and Crickets to name a few with a smooth yet powerful cast to drop on those spooky spring creek trout. This would also make a fantastic bass rod ……
